Please look at this guy. His name is Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman. In a press conference today, he said: 

“We have been very successful (conducting free and fair election) all these years!”

“Do not mislead the kampung folks that there are problems in the Election system by going to the street…”

“If you can produce a single evident that the EC is not acting fair, I will resign after election, in fact the entire panel will resign.”

He was pretty jovious during his entire press conference, smiling while lying. He didn’t even blink. But facts speak louder! Consider these, as written by my colleage Nat Tan. Some of the falsehoods and inaccuracies found in the 2004 general election are simply shocking:

• Many phantom voters have never lived in a particular area, as they were not known to the local community. According to a survey carried out by MAFREL before the 2004 general election, 232 of 965 voters (24%) sampled in Gombak and 282 of 796 voters sampled in Lembah Pantai (35%) were not recognized by community leaders and local residents. Most ironically, five Chinese and one Malay phantom voters were found to be ‘living’ in the house of Keadilan vice-president Azmin Ali’s mother in 2004.
• In some other cases, voters had successfully registered to vote using non-residential addresses and even false or unknown addresses. According to the abovementioned MAFREL survey, there were at least 116 such fraudulent addresses in Lembah Pantai and 13 in Gombak in 2004.
• Some were registered at addresses without house numbers, even though they lived in proper flats or apartments. For example, in the Lembah Pantai electoral roll dated 2 March 2004, a total of 203, 231 and 273 voters were registered (respectively) at Blocks 1, 2 and 3 of Rumah Pangsa Sri Pahang in Bukit Bangsar, without any unit numbers.

Tan Sri, please do not wait till after election. Please resign NOW!

However, he ended his press conference with a sting!

“Do not fool around with street demonstration, else, I will give the shortest campaign period of 6 days 13 hours!”

Tan Sri Rashid, please look at who you are threatening.

Rumours is spreading fast that our former CJ will soon get a new job! After the infamous Lingam tape, he has been hiding from public life, running for cover, no media could contact him. Now, he is soon to be another public figure.

He will soon appointed to become the Governor of Penang! 

As a born and raised Penangite, I strongly object his appointment to be the head of State of my kampung! I urge all Penangite to strongly reject his appointment. His appointment will be the disgrace of the state and affect the Foreign Investment into the state. When he represent Penang to see foreign investors, they will be reminded that the judicial system of this country is corrupt and therefore their investment is not protected.

I also urge the conscience of Barisan National, the Gerakan Government, to strongly object this appointment to show the Penangite that they care for their livelihood and care for foreign investment.

I am sure by this morning, most Malaysians woke up with a better day.

Really?

The tussle behind the scene was actually quite intense. PM wanted Tun Zaki, the ex-UMNO Legal Counsel to helm the post (Maverick SM, you are so right!). However, Sultan Azlan and our current King rejected vehemently. Sources told us. So, PM annouced Tun Hamid to be acting CJ (Why only acting CJ?).

Again, we owe our royalties twice for standing up for the people. Daulat Tuanku, from the bottom of my heart!

Tun Hamid is often lauded as a professional and great legal mind. Malaysian Judiciary is heading for better days, for now. Hopefully we will soon give due justice to a high profile murder case. 

Behind the scene another round of intense lobbying could be in the making. Another Lingam tape in the making?

The fate of Ahmad Fairuz is now on the hand of the King. In less than 12 hours, every Malaysian will wake up for better or worse. 

Yesterday, Government has pressurred “sekuat-kuatnya” to the King. PM, DPM and all menteri besar/Chief Ministers , All Of Them, boycotted the ceremony handling over archieves from the King and Sultans to the State secretaries. It was almost a declaration of WAR! It has never happen before. Right now, they tussle is rumoured to be going on behind the scene.

The Government’s intention is clear, they wanted Ahmad Fairuz to go on to be their lame duck Chief Justice who will listen to them like an anjing. Whatever they ask him to do, election petition, Anwar Ibrahim trials, Altantuya all, will be taken care of, “for the sake of the country”. Correct, Correct, Correct.

What will happen tomorrow?

Scenario #1:

PM will claim that the King has succumb to the will from the Government. The real ruler of Malaysia is PM. There is no judicial crisis. No royal commission is needed, all fiascos are created by Anwar Ibrahim. All safe and sound. Let’s resolve the parliament for a new mandate.

Scenario #2 – Fairuz not extended:

PM will claim that Fairuz has resigned because of “health and to spend more time with the family”. BN respects the will of the judge, the people and the King. No Royal Commission is needed because the tape could not be authenticated. All fiascos are created by Anwar Ibrahim.

What do you think the most likely scenario? Take your bet.

The interesting part of my job is that I got the chance to go deep into small villages, talk to people and understanding the cultures. It is a whole new experience to me. I have a chance to relearn about Malaysia.

Yesterday, I went to a small village in Gurun to witness Silat Gayong. The spirit of silat Gayong is not about body building, not about fighting each other, but to uphold justice, to defend the weak and uphold integrity. This is inspiring! 

Deja Vu? No, this time is my boss’s judgement day.

The talks in the town is that, “people from the top” is trying to prevent him from running the election until 2013. So, this is perfect opportunity.

This is utterly dirty machiavellian tactics! I am sick to my stomach.
