Breaking news. Abdul Hamid is new CJ. Zaki Azmi has been made CA president, and may be the new CJ when Abdul Hamid retires in 10 months. Will Sultan Azlan and the King prevent this from happening? If the future CJ is an UMNO man, how can we say with a straight face that our judiciary is independent? No wonder HINDRAF is bringing their case to the UK courts.

I was a Primary 5 kid when Malaya got its independence and belong to that proud, hopeful generation that watches with incresing horror as our nation slips into this decaying morass. We were truly a proud, happy, multi-racial society then. Race, language, religion or any other cultural issues were never an issue then. Many of my best friends were those of other races.

What is happening to us now? Aren't there any good decent people around anymore? How is it that we have become so racialistic, debased and corrupt? How could those enthrusted with public confidence and authority be behaving so atrociously? Bribes and favours are so easily demanded for nowadays. The horrifying thing is that such officials are not ashamed, afraid or embarassed by their actions at all!! Some can be even abusive and downright threatening. Almost everyone can vouch for such personal experiences -- from dealings with the police, town councils, governmental offices, and ministries such as JPJ, Customs, Education, etc. From the way remarks are being made, Malaysia Boleh sadly has become a synonym for ' anything can; the most immoral, unimaginable, corrupt and indecent thing that one can think of -- can happen here. The Zakaria Zeros case, the sexually vulgar comments by MPs, the incredulous happenings at the Attantuya murder trial, etc. etc. .... and now the Judiciary !! What's next ? History if full of lessons of the tragic endings of nations that goes on slipping downwards. Can we come to our senses before it is too late?

I am attracted to Inder's comments. However, Inder must and should visit Singapore to see whether in Singapore there is such thing as "chinese/tamil' schools. We are lucky that in Malaysia, despite the Malay rights, other communities are given the liberty to have their culture/education exsiting side by side with the Malay rights so much so that it is sacrosanct/entrenched in the Constitution. My advise to Inder, read up/do better research!
